The Scientist role requires prior training in upstream and/or downstream processes for biologicals products (vaccines, proteins, antibodies, etc.).Performs the below duties within Bioprocess Development with minimal supervision:

  • Is responsible to assist in the initiation and to completion of customary procedures via current documentation guidelines in transition of new R&D projects to operations units in an efficient manner.

  • Is responsible to Provide assistance in development of process(es), optimization of process(es), confirmation of process(es), validation and manufacturing of qualifying and pre-licensing serials.

  • Is responsible to Communicate work orally and in writing by treating reports and data with a high level of integrity and ethics and can complete roles and responsibilities as a Sub-Team member.

  • Assist in improving consistency, stability and yields.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the transfer and scale up of New Biological Entities (NBE) from Development to Operations by conducting experiments to evaluate, raw material selection, optimization, robustness, and confirmation from small to large scale.

  • Write protocols, conduct experiments and generation of reports for studies and treats all data with a high level of accuracy, integrity and ethics.

  • Preparation, set up, operation and validation of equipment, growth parameters, medium/buffer selection, and qualification of new equipment. Maintain equipment and ensure it is kept in operational status.

  • Investigate and share knowledge in bioprocess methodologies. Support innovative approaches for development of NBE's.

  • Operate in a compliant manner at all times with respect to documentation guidelines and current SOP’s related to experimentation, reporting data, and training. Proactively complete all training for BI, site, department, and bioprocess function training.

  • Proactively ensures regulatory, GMP (when appropriate) and EHS compliance for all teams locally.

Requirements

Scientist II

Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in a relevant scientific discipline required with at least three (3) years of relevant experience preferred; or Masters degree from an accredited institution in a relevant scientific discipline with industry experience preferred.

Experience in bioprocess (preferred), analytical, or formulation development with biological products (vaccines, therapeutics).

Knowledge of Biological and/or pharmaceutical development.

Good organization skills and detail oriented.

Participation on local and global multi-disciplinary teams

Ability to operate instrumentation/equipment and learn new technology and concepts. Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and information.

Basic lab skills, preferred experience with development of biological products, related experience in upstream and/or downstream bioprocess methods.

Ability to troubleshoot problems and take corrective actions to solve the problem.

Statistical analysis of data experience is preferred.

Achievement focused with appropriate alignment for regulatory and quality requirements.

Transparent communication, especially of risks, failures and learnings.

Positive attitude and willingness to work individually and in a team environment.

Scientist III

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant scientific discipline with at least 5 years of bio-process or formulation support experience or Master's Degree with 3 years industry experience.

Must have the ability to operate and train team members on current instrumentation/equipment and learn then train new technology and concepts. Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and information.

Must have basic and advanced lab skills, experience with bacteria, viruses and cell culture. Understanding of processes related to bioreactor/fermentation, down-stream methods and lyophilization, hands on experience with formulation of biological products and operation of reactors and cell culture equipment.

Ability to troubleshoot problems and take corrective actions to solve the problem. Statistical analysis of data experience utilizing Statistical software.

This position will be expected to lead (with management alignment) and may assist higher level scientists in experimental designed to enhance and/or current processes, investigation of problems related to biological products, and to develop new or improve existing production processes.

Leading team members and Hands on assistance will be required for both small scale and large scale bioreactor/fermentor processes, down stream processes and lyophilization processes.
