Description:

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department located in Ridgefield, CT. The non-clinical DMPK (NCDMPK) metabolite identification (MetID) group conducts studies using plasma from clinical trials to identify human metabolites. As an Intern within the NCDMPK group, you will investigate various technologies to improve our current MetID workflow. You will learn the basic fundamentals of MetID and high resolution mass spectrometry while collaborating with experienced scientists.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate various sample enrichment technologies toimprove analytical sensitivity using a mass spectrometer coupled with an onlineanalytical trapping system.

  • Study various mass spectrometer friendly solvents formaximal recovery of potential metabolites in plasma samples.

  • Efficiently conduct, interpret, and report data from invitro, preclinical, and clinical studies with a high level of integrity andethics.

  • Comply with applicable regulations, and perform all workin a safe and responsible manner.

  • Maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs andcorporate policies.

Requirements:

  • Graduate student ina good academic standing.

  • Overall, cumulativeGPA (from last completed quarter) must be at least 3.000 (on 4.0 scale) orbetter (No rounding up).

  • Completed 12 credit hours in Chemistry, Biochemistry,Pharmaceutical Sciences, and/or other related coursework.

  • Major course of studyin a field related to DMPK.

Desired Experience,Skills and Abilities:

  • Relevant organic and analytical chemistry courses at thegraduate level.

  • Ability to work in the laboratory independently and to learnto operate complex analytical instrumentation.

  • Laboratory experience should include familiarity with handlingbiological materials.

  • Experience with the use of LC-MS instruments andknowledge of high resolution mass spectrometers is preferred.

  • Familiarity with general principles of small moleculebiotransformation is considered beneficial.

  • Effective written, communication, and interpersonalskills.

EligibilityRequirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United Stateswithout restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical(if required).

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
