Under the general direction of a more senior staff or department Head, the individual is responsible for leading a group of scientists to provide pre-formulation characterization and API characterization for early formulation development support. The individual and his team are expected to work under best scientific practice to provide high quality data with a quick turn-around.

Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small group of scientiststo perform pre-formulation and API characterization and support drugproduct developability assessment of new chemical entities.

  • Collaborate withpre-formulation characterization group in Ingelheim site,Boehringer-Ingelheim human pharma , and/or contract research organization,pharma discovery, and formulation sciences department in API and pre-formulationcharacterization

  • Act as analytical representativein cross-functional API and pre-formulation development team; plan andexecute API and pre-formulation characterization tests; developfit-for-purpose analytical methods for API and pre-formulationcharacterization

  • HPLC, GC, XRD, DSC, TGA, KF,and other modern physical chemical analysis technologies.

  • Knowledge of GLP/cGMPregulations, VICH guidelines, and compendia monographs/methods.

  • Organizes and presents theresults of work internally and externally.

  • Ensures the compliance toSafety, Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs, current good manufacture practice(cGMP, Company Affirmative Action, and Standard Operating Procedures andPolicies.

  • Must be able to shiftpriorities and projects, as company’s needs change.

  • As needed, assists others aspriorities change.


  • PhD in analytical chemistry,pharmaceutical science, or related field.

  • 5-10 years in-depth experienceand expertise in API and pre-formulation characterization.

  • Good knowledge of APIdevelopment, pre-formulation development and overall pharmaceuticaldevelopment.

  • Experience of leadership andmanagement of direct reports is a plus.

  • Strong management skills andcapability in building efficient and effective API and pre-formulationcharacterization team.


  • Must be legally authorized towork in the United States without restriction

  • Must be willing to take a drugtest and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
