Description:

To expand and improve our global external network of research collaborators to ensure that we have access to the foremost technologies and expertise in vaccinology, genetics, bioinformatics, proteomics, immunology, vaccine delivery technologies, vectors and expression systems, and that these are incorporated into projects when strategically and commercially appropriate. To ensure that BI Vaccine R&D has "first right of refusal" on new technologies, and that we are the commercialization partner of choice for AH vaccine startups. To ensure we are best positioned in the industry to address emerging diseases.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a global external innovation strategy aligned with Vaccine R&D strategy and leadership, SBUs and Industrial operations and budget. Build gap analysis and road map to achieve strategy.

  • Oversee all external innovation contracts and budget in association with finance, legal and R&D leadership

  • Have a clear scientific understanding of all priority projects across all species/ functions, ensure current knowledge and evaluation of external technologies and partners, and make connections to benefit projects.

  • Ensure all external collaborations are in BI's best interests in terms of ROI, IP, reputation, in line with BD, IP and legal

  • Align with businesses in EU, US, China on key global emerging disease threats and ensure we have collaborations in place with leading institutes to be an industry leader in addressing emerging diseases

Requirements:

  • Science-based PhD from an accredited institution required

  • Requires a deep understanding of vaccinology, current scientific trends and their applicability, and a broad network of internal and external industry and academic collaborations. An understanding and experience of budget management. Ability to work collaboratively with conflicting priorities, juggle multiple projects and multiple stakeholders.

  • At least ten (10) years’ experience of vaccine R&D post PhD, including a deep understanding of infectious disease, technologies of genetics, molecular biology, protein expression, vaccine delivery. Some knowledge of bioinformatics, diagnostics and bioprocess science and advantage.

  • An experienced scientist with a strong academic network who can represent the company in high-level scientific and basic commercial discussions.

  • An ability to quickly synthesize complex information and see commercial possibilities. An ability to see applications of technologies across disciplines.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, to engage strong scientists and also hold research partners accountable.

  • Proven ability to communicate cross-culturally.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
